The Nominating process takes place from February-May, and we will just meet 3-4 times. Currently, we are seeking committee members to collaborate and suggest great volunteers for various PTA roles.

Please consider joining the team to help keep the PTA vibrant, dynamic and strong! If you are interested in joining the committee, please email Elsa Morgan at elsabmorgan@gmail.com Thanks in advance! We couldn’t do it without you!

5TH GRADE BABY PHOTOS NEEDED
It is a tradition to include baby pictures of the current 5th graders in our LLS yearbook.  Please help us continue this tradition and send in a baby picture of your child at two years old or younger.  Twins should have individual pictures.  In addition, if your child attended a different school for kindergarten, please submit his or her kindergarten photo (or photo of your child age 5 or 6).  These photos will be on the same page as their 5th grade photos. Please email us the pictures by Friday, February 10th and include your child's name and class in the body of the email.  Thank you so much for your help with this!! We must have 100% participation on this since these pictures are featured in this section. Any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out to Lisa Eisen.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION
Black History Month is celebrated every year in February to honor the achievements of African Americans and recognize their central role in US history.  In 1915, Carter G. Woodson and Jesse E. Moorland founded an organization, now known as the Association for the Study of African American Life and and History (ASALH), to research and promote the achievements of African Americans and other peoples of African descent.  In 1926, the group sponsored the first national Negro History Week, choosing the second week of February to coincide with the birthdays of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln.  In the decades that followed, the week became Black History Month and was officially recognized by President Gerald Ford in 1976.

Learn more about the origins of Black History Month from this guide from the Westport Library.
