Fourth graders at Long Lots School participated in a Makerspace challenge inspired by visiting author Jasmine Warga and her novel A Rover’s Story. Over the course of two classes, students worked in small groups to design and build Mars rovers using recycled materials. Each rover was designed to attach to a BeeBot, which students then coded to travel across the “surface of Mars” while avoiding craters and other obstacles. Mrs. Hubbard and Mrs. Eilertsen were thrilled by the students’ creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork as they brought their rovers to life!
