Delays and Early Closings

The fastest and most complete information on school closings and delays can be obtained by calling 341-1766. If schools are cancelled or delayed, that information is usually on the emergency line (341-1766) by 6:00 a.m.

The Superintendent may call for a one, two, or three hour delay depending on the circumstances. Early dismissals are at 1:30. The details regarding the change will be announced on the emergency phone line, the district webpage under Important District News, and through SchoolMessenger.

The radio and TV stations listed below carry announcements of delayed school opening or closing. If the station is not listed, it receives no information from the Westport Public Schools:

Westport Public Schools is proud to celebrate students from Long Lots Elementary School and Kings Highway Elementary School who were recognized among this year’s winning creators in the 2026 Access Awareness Awards, an annual student video contest sponsored by the Area 9 Cable Council and Optimum of Connecticut. The contest honors original student video productions broadcast on Optimum’s Educational Access Channel 78 and encourages students to build storytelling and video production skills through projects connected to school and community life.

Fifth-grade students at LLS proudly continued the tradition of helping to stock the pantry at Operation Hope in Fairfield. Each year, fifth graders celebrate the start of Super Bowl weekend with a special potluck lunch shared with their families. As part of the celebration, students donate canned goods and “vote” to predict the winner of the Super Bowl, turning school spirit into meaningful community service.
